Bulawayo – In a latest tribal scuffle, unemployed youths in Bulawayo are calling for the removal and banning of all Shona manufactured products and replacing them with their local Ndebele labels.
Addressing journalists at Bulawayo press club, Zenzo Nyoni, Chairperson and leader of Bulawayo Youth Unemployment Agenda, said they are now calling for the removal of all Shona manufactured products like mahewu, juice drinks and freezits.
“We are going to make sure all companies bearing Shona names must be sent back to Harare, as they are making money at the expense of Bulawayo youths and Ndebele speaking employment seekers. We want companies that open their doors in Bulawayo’s industrial areas and employ 100% local Ndebele youths and school leavers. We will not allow anyone from outside Bulawayo to be employed in our mother land of Mthwakazi state, at the expense of our own job seekers,” he said amid grumbling from the addressees.
“We are also going to demonstrate and march in the streets of Bulawayo, calling all our people to drive out Ndebele blood suckers, who make money in our back yard at our expense,” added Nyoni.
Allan Mlalazi who identified himself as a culture representative, from ZAPU, added fuel on the already burning situation by talking about the 1979 Shona grand plan. “The Shona speaking people planned in 1979, to disempower all Ndebele speaking people and their community. They also deliberately ignored building schools and improve industries to impoverish the Ndebeles. They raped our women and daughters, thereby affecting us by cohabiting with Ndebele speaking Shona children,” he said.
Mthwakazi State president Mqondisi Moyo, also acknowledged that they will not rest until all Ndebele speaking youths and community are empowered by the reopening of the industry. “We will visit all companies opening in Bulawayo to employ Ndebeles and not to bring their Shona speaking workers here.
However a Bulawayo businessman Mr Misheck Moyo, threw back the blame of industrial woes to the former Minister of Industry Prof Welshman Ncube who he said failed to turn around the tables for Ndebeles during his tenure as the influential commercial gatekeeper.
“David Coltart successfully improved Education Ministry, while Ncube kept bickering. I think Mlalazi, Zenzo and Mqondisi must look themselves in the mirror before driving away their possible employers in Shona labels,” he said.

  3. How convenient that all of you come with knives blazing when people bring serious matters that need to be addressed. I have not seen one shona person who has publicly condemned the 1979 grand plan. This grand plan is not only addressed to zanu supporters but to shona people as a whole. These are the key issues that need serious debate

  11. If the man on the picture is representing Matebele people, then its shame on them. Just look at them! Its very easy to print Ndebele words on products and sell but then demography wont justify the cost.

  13. Backward people want to blame someone for their ineptness. Why are you backward in the first place, if you see yourself as superior over these Svina people? I have very good Ndebele friends in Harare. They are not backward. My boss, Ndebele, is super. He is has fair treatment over all workers and does not recruit on tribal lines but on ability.
If you are talking about industry deterioration, its not a Ndebele problem. It is a national problem.
So stop that Ndebele against Shona rubbish. If you produce your own products to sell all over Zimbabwe, if the products are good, we will buy them. We do not buy because they are ShoNdebele but because they are good.
Bulawayo and about, if you do not shut up those tribal idiots from pretending to represent you, the nation will learn your hatred against them and will start to fight back and this does not build any beneficial future.

  15. I find it funny that shona people want to be the ones to say who is Ndebele and who isnt. The problem here isnt Nyoni but the system that has been benefiting shona people at the expense of the local Ndebele people. Address that issue there wont be a problem, but because the shona are oppressors together with zanu they see no wrong in closing out Ndebele people in their areas especially in government jobs.

  19. At one time, we even had a Ndebele mayor in Harare, but Bulawayo-nada. Khumalos and company, be worry of fake Ndebeles (Nyonis, Ncubes, Moyos and company), they only want to bring misery to the Ndebele nation by starting something and then they revert to being Shonas when the fire starts burning.

  25. Tribalism is not an issue to take lightly. We have seen its
terrible results in many African countries including our own Zimbabwe.
We need to engage in these issues carefully and wisely. They are a time
bomb if ignored. A lot of these so called
Ndebeles do not have even a drop of Ndebele blood
in their veins and are the main challenge in Matebeleland. They are
suffering from terrible identity crisis. Their mind informs them they are
Ndebeles when their DNA cries Shona identity. Both Shonas and my good
original Ndebeles need to be wary of these when dealing with issues of
tribalism. I am talking from experiance. I have
suffered terrible tribal insults not from Ndebeles original but my own
blood brothers!!! I am talking of those who do not know where they belong. The Gumbos, the Moyos, the Nyonis etc.

  27. For as long as there is no equality in the distribution of wealth in the land, coupled with discriminatory practices in all areas of public life, these sentiments will forever be present. Unfortunately, zanu is responsible for all this. Don’t ever fool yourselves that you will merely ward a magic hand and all will be ok. This people are serious and are willing to take it to the next level. They have done before.

  29. The misguided & delusional youths must have been high on zed & mbanje!!…do they think the police will stand idly by with arms akimbo while they carry out their ill-advised witch-hunt on companies operating in Byo??!! For another thing, how do you actually tell if s/body is Ndebele or not coz ability to speak the language is not necessarily 100% proof??!! And how do you treat the case of people who have married across tribal lines??!! Are these youths also saying Ndebeles in other provinces must be kicked back to Mat’land??!! This is a crazy & scatter-brained idea!!

  31. kikiki, just like south africans now we know where they came from, on a serious note though there seems to be a sabotage of Byo, what with the Ndebele politicians all greedy look at Mpofu what good has he done

  33. If this is true, then I find it disturbing in a free and democratic Zimbabwe. Shona or Ndebele, this is our Zimbabwe. We are brothers and let not the challenges facing our nation divide us and erode the gains we have achieved so far as a nation. It is an open secret that we are going through difficult times but such utterances are inconsistent with the spirit of unity promoted by our political leadership. Let us pray for our nation rather than fueling tribalism. If I may ask, don’t we have Ndebele people working in Harare’s industries? food for thought.
