London (ZimEye) Zimbabwean ex-servicemen have been left out of the roll of honour and the United Kingdom government should honour Rhodesian/Zimbabwean army heroes in the same way they do mainland ex- servicemen, a petition on the UK government website reads.
The petition has been crafted by Zimbabweans living in the United Kingdom who protest that the UK government has stopped recognising the sacrifice and courage that Rhodesian/Zimbabwean service men of all races have made on behalf of Great Britain since the Second World War.
This petition comes in time with the annual remembrance ceremonies annually officiated by the Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

A wartime army poster bearing Rhodesian army personnel on patrol…

“We, the undersigned, petition the government to recitify this fact, allowing a representative to lay a wreath at the cenotaph alongside representatives of other Commonwealth nations,” reads a part of the petition.

Zimbabwe was formerly called Rhodesia and despite former prime minister Ian Smith’s Unilateral Declaration of Independence(UDI) of 1965, Britain continued to regard the former colony as British and after independence in 1980, the country was only booted from the commonwealth in 2003. (ZimEye, UK)

  1. Yeah, my Uncle was blown off a Destroyer (WWII) and had to swim 25 miles before he was picked up by seaplane.
Then employed many on a farm given to him be that British Federalist Govt
I’m not saying that all was right then on both sides,
but I am glad he does not have the net too see this……………..
    Disgraceful!!

  2. Its high pple f zim to major on what is vital to you instead of looking into issues that i prefer to refer to as nonsensical. They fought for us not uk. Hatina patakambo tenda varwi vavo moti vedu ngavaonekwe kuti vanei chakosha chisina vamwe.

  3. Yes, recent destruction when the white man saw that a certain black dictator leader was not going to give them African/Zimbabwean resources. He clung to them like a mad man; now the white man thought of a good idea to spite him – “burn with and in your house” they said. And now we have sanctions and of course our diamonds which a few of our leaders have helped themselves to, albeit unlawfully. Mugabe’ evil will never eclipse the white man’s evil intentions. WE CAN SEE THRU THE VEIL…

  4. When is Zimbabwe going to join the real world? Martin da william speaks correctly about the History 1923 to 1947 it is the truth. But what of the more recent history, the destruction of a once flourishing country, namely Zimbabwe. It may take twenty or more years, but the truth will surely be written in the worlds history books.

  5. i dont support ZANU or MDCT but look at this one.Any person who joined those armies after colinialism and fought whatever war outside the honourable Chimurengas one and two was a sell out and did not believew in freedom and personal diginity. So what honour do you mean you muppets? pOINT OF CORRECTION CDE Naked a gandanga is one who fought colinialsim by then its derogatory yes but i we used it just as n…ger calling his fellow brother without hatred but jockingly.Down with neo colonialism.

  6. There is nothing wrong with honouring those Zimbabwean heroes who contributed to a global fight against the evils of totalarianism and dictatorship. Only childish zanu muppets would be confused by this matter because they are totally incapable of seeing the bigger picture.

  7. interesting Martin da William. It was a actually two Ndebele gandangas who reached Hitler’s bunker albeit just after the Reich leader had set himself on fire. We also have Zimbabwean gurkas – hard core British heroes composed of Shona and Ndebele gandangas who taught Hitler a lesson. Long live the Zimbabwean gurkas

  8. ummm, this pettion is correct, because it is not taking the Zimbabwe / Rhodesia , of chimurenga against ian smith gvt,,, it’s the old guard, those people who were in the Rhodesia who went to help Britain in the world wars.. , yes let them be honored.. phase october 1923-1947 when Britain was still in-control of southern Rhodesia, not those troops after the unilateral declaration of Independence by Ian smith.on 11 November 1965…. well it can be confusing, but we mean those Zimbabweans who sacrificed in the world war , helping Britain in the world war times..
get the history… (mainly Ndebele and mixed race)formed the world war troops .in October 1923, subsequent to a 1922 referendum. Rhodesians served on behalf of the United Kingdom during World War II, mainly in the East African Campaign against Axis forces in Italian East Africa.
Southern Rhodesia (later Zimbabwe) was a self-governing British colony. As such, it was covered by the British declaration of war. Rhodesian units served in East Africa, Europe, North Africa and notably Burma. Southern Rhodesian troops were not allowed to serve as a composite unit (unlike their Australian, Canadian, or South African counterparts) because they constituted a significant part of the settler population. A significant number of Southern Rhodesian troops, especially in the Rhodesian African Rifles, were not of white origin (mainly Ndebele and mixed race). Their service has never been recognised by the ZANU (PF) government in Harare. Ian Smith, the future Prime Minister, like most of his white contemporaries, served under British command, as a fighter pilot during the Battle of Britain ..
