The Movement for Democratic Change formation led by Morgan Tsvangirai has dismissed as unfounded state media reports that some political parties have snubbed calls for an all-stakeholders conference to tackle Zimbabwe’s social, economic and political challenges.
MDC-T pokesman Obert Gutu says there are plans by some concerned Zimbabweans led by churches, political parties and civic organisations to hold an all-stakeholders’ conference in the next 30 to 90 days to which his party will be invited to participate.
The stakeholders conference is meant to find ways of addressing most problems bedeviling the country.
Gutu says the national convergence will be guided by eminent opinion leaders drawn from churches, business community and student movements who are leading in the planning stages.

  1. Gutu must not engage in double-speak!!…is he admitting that MDC-T is now going to come to the indaba as one of the invited entities and not as the organiser??!! If so, then it’s true that the opposition had tried to steal the Bishop Bakare initiative!!
All the same I don’t see the conference achieving anything meaningful beyond being a talk-shop, where people will talk ad nauseum about company closures, the dire state of the economy, etc WITHOUT proffering any practical solutions thereto.

If anyone is serious about finding a way out of Zimbabwe’s present economic and political mo-rose then they will have to think careful about inviting parties like the MDC factions given the leaders’ reputation as breathtakingly incompetent individuals much less allow them to play any leading role.
We all know MDC leaders are desperate to get back on the gravy train, so desperate they will once again sell the struggle to end the Zanu PF dictatorship just as they did during the GNU years. MDC are just too breathtakingly incompetent to be trust with power much less for them to play the leading role! The need to have ALL the democratic reforms is too important to be have MDC messing around with it.
The democratic reforms are just too important to allow MDC to handle. At best MDC should come to the conference as invited guests and not be the hosts!
