Zimbabwe’s Minister of Environment, Water and Climate, Saviour Kasukuwere was yesterday humiliated after he was detained and treated like a prisoner by German Immigration Department police when he landed in Munich while in transit to Poland where he is  attending the United Nations Framework on Climate Change Convention
Minister Kasukuwere spoke Saturday of his ordeal which ended up involving Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Germany Hebson Makuvise’s intervention.
Kasukuwere revealed he was detained for “two and half hours,” in a tiny room during a time when he was informed security systems had detected him as an unwanted individual on German territory.
Kasukuwere’s detention comes barely two weeks after Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi received the same treatment in London, and flamboyant businessman Phillip Chiyangwa was totally denied entry into the UK at the same time.
Kasukuwere described his ordeal as very troublesome.
“At Munich, Germany in the morning, briefly detained for 2hrs 30min. Now safely arrived in Poland. Zvakaoma,” said Kasukuwere on arrival in Poland after escaping German detention.
“Problems started when I landed at Munich International Airport around 6am today. As we were walking from the arrival terminal, police details and security agents appeared as if they were carrying their usual airport checks but as soon as they got hold of my passport, they all swooped on me.
“They stopped searching all the other people and I suddenly became the centre of attraction as they escorted me to a police post within the airport and they detained me in a small room for two and half hours. As soon as we got into this room, they took away my passport and gave me some document saying I was supposed to be subjected to some security checks. The police details consulted with higher authorities and shuttled from one office to the other.
“I asked them what was the problem and they told me that their security system had alerted them that an undesirable element was about to enter into their country. They searched me and checked all my details and after a while, they left me to sit alone in this tiny room not knowing what was going on,” said Cde Kasukuwere.
He continued: “It was quite some experience but I wasn’t surprised. I then spoke to the Germany Ambassador in Zimbabwe who made frantic efforts to call these police details to no avail. I sat in this tiny room on some bench and all I could do was just to read my prayer book.”
Kasukuwere said that he battled to explain albeit without success to the police details that he was on his way to a UN meeting in Poland but they would not listen.
“I went further querying why as a diplomat I was being kept in this tiny room but they maintained that they were doing their job,” he said.
He added
“After about two and half hours of uncertainty, one of the police officials just came in and handed me my passport. He then hurriedly left and I was really taken aback by this treatment. I think this had something to do with the illegal sanctions but no one mentioned this to me. This was quite some experience.
I was only freed around 8:45am. This treatment was totally uncalled for.
“After I had been released, the Germany Ambassador to Zimbabwe contacted me and he was very apologetic about the whole ordeal. He gave me assurance that this would never happen again.”
Meanwhile Walter Mzembi the Tourism Minister revealed he is only allowed into the UK only once a year and this in November, as a part of British or EU smart sanctions against him and several members of Robert Mugabe’s ZANU PF party.

  1. if you call detaining of an African minister rule of law then you don’t know how the world works. tomorrow it’s you and no one will apologise for that. This is about how Africans are treated because they are viewed as less equal and powerless. This is not a matter to play with, this is about an attitude. Can the same attitude used to lynch, torture and humiliate African slaves, the same attitude that inflicted pain to Nelson Mandela can we rejoice when the same attitude is used in the name of rule of law. No no the dark acts of discriminating African leaders must never be rehearsed in the name of rule of law. Never in 21st century

  2. Mama’s baby is crying about a mere 3hour detention when him and his cohorts have held us virtual hostages for these past 33 solid years.

  3. After the evil of slavery, Africans should be treated as full global citizens. This is not about Kasukuwere this is about the human rights of Africans.
Right now there is covert Racism whereby a white person just coughs while you are walking past them. And you can’t take someone to court for that but it’s still an act of aggression. If they can do this to a minister what about me an ordirnary African. The game must change, we are not terrorist, we are not violent, so we must be respected as equal human beings. The detaining of African poets, musicians, businessman, and government ministers is a sign that Africans are still not treated as equal human beings across the world.

  4. Whatever their reasons , I think you got a taste of your own medicine ,am surprised you were surprised .Of all people you should have just kept this to yourself ,you really deserve this treatment .You can rig ,kill ,main or steal but some systems you can’t corrupt them.Your problem vanhu vezanu is pride, you want everyone to bow down to you where ever you go.These officers did their job not like your over zealous politic police

  5. Mazimbabwe! Some of us are behind and will never open up. You cant see that Germany airport police behave racist.

    Hamheno!

  11. Surprise! surprise. How myopic are u not to be able to see just beyond your nose. Did I hear you well when you wailed about diplomatic status denied you in a country where you are deemed a murderer and prohibited. Kasukuwere you should be very aware of the vilification you did to that American ambassador in 2008. Remember him and how long you barricaded his motorcade, illegally detained him in the bush without toilets, water and food. He is black like you and was just trying to verify the atrocities visited upon poor people you were legally bound to protect. And let me remind you sir that you were the perpetrators of those atrocities and it is because of that that your unwelcome on Germany soil is based. You haven’t renounced violence and you have, from grapevine perfected the art of killing that you are now the hit-man for ZANU PF. Did you ever hear about the death of Elliot Manyika and the lovely Chindori Chininga. I am persuaded to believe you were reading Lucifer’s prayer book in that small room.Be grateful you were kept in a small room, sitting on some bench though you preferred a couch. And again I wish to let you know that a number of innocent people are held in worse places because of illegal entry in a neighboring country down south of you. These are people who are trying to make ends meet due to your poor stewardship of the resources of our country. Yet you want to be given diplomatic treatment in Europe, America, and Asia. How foolish of you

  22. Thanks RasUK, l feel pity for these blind and stupid Tsvangi Lie followers for uttering garbage in support of the pink Germany sw!nes who saw it fit to detain, under filthy conditions, Cde Kasukuwere. If a very close relative of Tsvangi Lie left politics aside to assist one of his own, albeit a political foe, then who are you iwe dzegu, bombamupani to say the Germans were right? The same thing if it happens at Harare Int Airport, CNN, Skynews, BBC, human rights and gay groups, Obama and many other western dogs would have been pouring scon on us. Very sorry Tyson

  23. More countries should “do their jobs” like they do in Germany and send a clear message to these political miscreants that their crimes are not going unnoticed.

  24. Mwana wamambo ,so goes the saying. Its nice to know how it feels when one is on the receiving end, hope its a sobering thought for him to behave better at home ,not the usual power/punch drunk manner, sorry hako .

  32. I dont find anything wrong with Germany security and police. They were just doing their job just lyk what we do in Zimbabwe.

  33. This is a sad reminder of what a bitch the law is. Our police officers and ministers like to refer or use this phrase, ‘rule of law’. What is lost on them is some of these laws are actually immoral and unjust. It is a sham that as a ppl, as nations we promulgate laws not founded on justice as God would want us to. We make laws which protect the interest and stroke the egos of politicians to the detriment of justice and humanity. A day of reckoning will certainly come, if not in this life, in the next.

  34. oh a well deserved treatment, why go where you are not wanted in the first place?By the way what was that prayer book ex-cio officer Kasukuwere?

  35. Theres was nothing wrong with those exercises whatsoever.Isn’t it they stated clearly that there was an undesirable element around, surely even in zim they will do the same.

  36. kkkkkkk the police said they were only doing their job…..ask the MDC guys in Zim they have heard that statement from cops a million times. Im surprised Kasukuwere was reading his prayer book. Confessing his sins maybe kkkkkkkkk
