The FIFA presidential elections will take place at the 65th FIFA Congress on 29th May 2015, in Zurich.
Figo’s bid for the FIFA presidency has received a stamp of approval from fellow country man and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho said: “Luis Figo’s candidacy is a great step forward for football. His career over many years grants a better future for Fifa.”
The ex- Portugal international is stepping in to end Sepp Blatter’s reign, an era characterised by corruption, scandals engulfing the World Cup bidding process.
The 42 year old Figo said FIFA’s image has deteriorated for years now under the leadership of 78 year old Blatter who is still eager to run for a fifth term.
“Football has given me so much during my life and I want to give something back to the game,” the ex-Portugal international, who won 127 caps, said in a CNN interview.
“I look at the reputation of Fifa right now and I don’t like it. Football deserves better. In recent weeks, months, and even years, I have seen the image of Fifa deteriorate.
“As I speak to many people in football – to players, managers and association presidents – so many of those people have told me that something has to be done.”

  1. Mugabe is a murderer like it or not. He is there bcz he has murdered and stolen elections. He was never voted by anyone. Even Mutasa has said so be it in government or ZANU-PF.

  2. Hezvo-ka, you are an utter disappointment.
Either you work from the shake-shake house, you are plainly insane or you are one of the murderers among us. If you were born by June 2008 you will no doubt recall the cases of murder victims like Tonderai Ndira, Better Chokururama, Cain Nyevhe and several others whose only crime was not supporting Mugabe’s party. The man you are desperately trying to defend is indefensible even the comparison to Dynamos’ winning of the league is pathetic.
Whatever we did to deserve you as a fellow countryman is obviously the same thing we did to deserve your dear Mugabe.

  3. YOUR HEADLINE IS IN EXTREMELY BAD TASTE!!….nyangwe muchivenga Gushaz zvakadai why does everything have to involve him??!! As they say, facts are stubborn…let’s face it: Bob is still in power simply coz he has been winning elections!! You might not like that result, but that’s your own funeral coz many other million Zim voters do like him enough to vote for him irrespective of his advanced age. Your gripe about Bob overstaying has the same weight as PSL teams complaining that it’s not fair that De-Mbare has won the league 4 times in a row!! Is it really Dynamos’ fault if other teams are not good enough to win the championship??!!
The allegations of elections not being free or fair is an anthem to perennial losers like Chematama [Zim], Afonso Dhlakama [Moza], or Hakainde Hichilema [Zambia] . Coming specifically to MDC, their claims of a Nikuv operation that involved migrating “Xs” clearly belongs to the realm of science fiction; no wonder they were scared of taking such ridiculous & ludicrous claims to court!!
