In a bizarre case that left Gokwe’s Dzvoritsvo villagers speechless, a 62 year old man identified as Mukanhiwa Nyambo confessed to have married his 24 year old daughter to a goblin he acquired from South Africa in 1979.
This came to light when his daughter was brought back home by in-laws and her husband after they experienced complications in bed and also failing to have a child in their five year old marriage.
The in-laws stay in the same area of Dzvoritsvo under chief Njelele, a few kilometres from Gokwe town centre.
According to Ramson Kweya a husband to Slyvia, the affected daughter of the man in question, “I have decided to bring back my wife to her parents to have this nightmare solved. I only enjoyed the first week of my marriage before the appearance of this animal like creature. From the time it showed itself, I was never at ease as the thing would sleep between us every time it so wishes,” he said.
Asked to shed light on his daughter’s predicament, Nyambo replied saying this has nothing to do with the press. “This is a private issue my friend. How did you come here, and who invited you in our secret affairs. Ndeve kwa Kweya here vakudaidza kuti vandinyadzise?” asked Nyambo before turning his back on this journalist.
A woman, who identified herself as Aleta Nyambo and also as a sister to Sylvia’s father, told ZimEye that she once told his brother to stop hunting for riches. “He was always in a habit of seeking riches the questionable way, which the whole family was against. He would even visit local n’angas, at a tender age, a situation our late father devastated. Look now all her daughters will never get married,” she said before wiping her tears.
According to information from Dzvoritsvo village head representative, Pauro Dzoto, Nyambo acquired his goblin from SA in 1979 and brought it home to acquire money from nearby businesses in Gokwe. “He confessed before a village court that he will soon return it with two beasts, to a place known to him,” said the village head.
The Nyambo family and their in-laws are said to have agreed to leave their wife in the hands of her father to solve the problem before they can take her back. They are also said to be discussing the reimbursement of a few beasts for the inconvenience caused.
Last week Chief Njelele was quoted breathing fire on all witchcraft practices. He threatened to expel all involved in witchcraft from his jurisdiction.
