It is disaster for MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai who this week sits down his National Council to consider a By-Elections Snub U-Turn concept paper Tsvangirai has rushed to prepare revealed by ZimEye.com last week.
ZimEye.com  last week exclusively revealed Tsvangirai is boiling in confusion over whether to participate in the upcoming by elections which are set to give ZANU PF a parliamentary presence and allow Mugabe to take over strategic urban areas MDC-T party enjoyed.
The constituencies were left vacant after the so called ‘rebels’ – Tendai Biti and his Renewal Team, were booted from parliament under Tsvangirai’s bidding.
If MDC-T at the end of the week decides to boycott the by-elections, it will be a walkover for ZANU PF, something the revolutionary party has begun celebrating in editorial overtones in its broadsheet, The Herald.
The MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu speaking at the weekend revealed his party had in recent days been troubled over whether to boycott and allow Zanu-PF to sweep all the seats or go into the race and fight to retain the constituencies.
Gutu said the national council will now convene and make a determination.
“In view of the fact that the dates have been proclaimed, the national council will have to meet earlier to make a decision. This is because it is the only organ mandated to amend, alter or even uphold a decision of congress. Not even the president of the party, secretary general or myself has such powers,” said Mr Gutu.
“We have a standing position of congress not to participate in any elections. That cannot be overturned unilaterally. The national council is the highest decision making body in between congress.”
Gutu did not comment substantively on impeccable reports that there were some in the opposition party advocating participation.
“It is difficult to get into people’s minds and hearts. I wish if I was a prophet I would have known,” said Gutu. ALSO READ –  Tsvangirai In U-Turn Spin Over By Elections

  1. Even if they had left Tsvangirai, they were still opposition and not Zanu Pf.What you are trying to tell us is that fellow opposition parties are worse enemies to the MDC than Zanu Pf and I vehemently disagree with that stupid line of thinking. The truth is your Tsvangirai conived to share those seats with Zanu Pf in the ratio 1is to 2 which we all wittnessed. If you are with Zanu Pf then you are the povho’s enermy, period.

  3. Its not MDC-T’s own doing, but the 21 left and are no longer part & parcel of MDC-T. Whether they participate or not will not change the fact that the 21 are not MDC-T and currently, they are short in parliament by the same number. In short, they should not participate, until the conditions they seek prevail

  7. I would agree with the proposition that not contesting will be better but only if the by-elections were not as a result of MDC-T’s own doing. MDC-T caused this by-election by recalling the MDC-Renewal guys.
MDC-T congress made two resolutions a) to recall MDC- Renewal MPs and b) not to contest any elections until reforms are implemented.
It was for the leaders to realize that recalling the MPs too soon before the reforms could be implemented was self-defeating; that is what strategic thinking is all about, isn’t it!
Now that MDC has recalled the MDC – Renewal MPs handing these seats to Zanu PF without even an attempt to get them back is dumb.
Tsvangirai and his friends have already proven that they are corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent particularly by failing to get even one reform implemented in five years of the GNU. By making a total dog’s breakfast of this MPs recall they are just giving more evidence of just how breathtakingly incompetent they really are!

  9. MDC should not have recalled the seats but after have done so not to even try to win back the seats would make MDC look really stupid!

  11. I am amazed by the pressure the media and Zanu pf seem to be putting on Tsvangirai to contest. If Tsvangirai contests chances are high he will lose and if he looses it is going to further strain his party and re-awaken the debate over his person as leader of MDC-T. Not contesting, though not a solution, would buy time for the MDC-T to sort their issues while they hide behind the uneven electoral playing field narrative.
