Bulawayo City streets and avenues were yesterday temporarily turned into a river due to poor drainage systems.
As seen in the pictures, pedestrians were forced to negotiate their way around the whole city in a bid to find a better crossing place in the street corners. Bulawayo City Council also blamed the carelessness on its residents for the allegedly blocking the drainages through littering.
Several residents who spoke to ZimEye, accused the City Council of failing to renew the drainage pipes, which they said were done way back more than a hundred years ago in the early years of Rhodesia.
An organisation based in the suburbs of Bulawayo, called ZDDT(Zimbabwe Development Democracy Trust) has attempted to reduce the littering menace through a cleaning exercise as they engage councillors in their ‘Let’s keep our City Clean Campaign,’ but which work has not been enough.

  1. be thankful that u hv receivd rains otherwise ….. the power of the rain is from God and mankind can not match.let the river wash away the filthy of bulawayo.

  2. The minister responsible for urban areas should have been the first to get fired on the basis of gross incompetence. All these issues like lack of clean tap water, poor sewerage systems and pilling up of garbage in cities are very clear for anybody to see. Now all of a sudden Bulawayo with its poor rains now look like they are at sea level due to blocked storm drains.
