1965 UDI poster 'disappears' from the internet

A 1965 Rhodesian UDI poster was immediately removed off the internet as Mugabe and his rivals Tsvangirai and Mutambara signed a new power sharing deal on Monday, the ZimEye can reveal. |
|
A copy of the original UDI document as advertised on the site. |
The website whose domain name is http://www.memories-of-rhodesia.com disabled the Advert immediately on Monday afternoon as the deal was formerly announced in Harare, amidst speculation that the owner was acting in reaction to the history shocking agreement made at Rainbow Towers.
The advert contained a poster calling for new army recruitment as the war with ZANU and ZAPU liberation forces raged in 1965. The webpage also had a copy of the full colour original Unilateral Declaration of Independence document, full colour Rhodesian uniform and an army recruiting poster 'BE A MAN AMONG MEN'
Efforts to obtain a comment from the owner, Mr Cushworth in the USA on his phone were fruitless. Even after 3 days the original webpage http://www.memories-of-rhodesia.com/pages/rws.html still could not be found with neither explanation nor notice to re-direct site visitors.
In 1965 the then Prime Minister of Rhodesia Ian Douglas Smith unilaterally declared independence from Great Britain distancing the then Zimbabwe from the British empire as the liberation war started. Many Zimbabwean whites still feel that Ian Smith was right and have retained a strong nostalgia for the Rhodesian years.
