Nationwide Police descent on Protesters
By a Correspondent
Harare, - Protesters collaborating with a National Constitutional Assembly nationwide strike were yesterday violently dispersed by riot police.
After a Tuesday dawn raid on NCA chairman Lovemore Madhuku's house, police descended on protesters yesterday and arrested at least 32 people in Harare, Mutare and Gweru
"In Mutare the police used teargas to break the demonstration and they are still beating people suspected to have taken part in the demonstration in Harare and Bulawayo," said Madhuku.
Madhuku also added that the arrests and the suppression of the demonstrations will not deter the NCA from organising more protests next Tuesday. "We have another set of demonstration next Tuesday. We will continue with that," Madhuku said.
Madhuku then handed himself to the police at Harare Central Police Station accompanied only by his lawyer Alec Muchedehama where it is reported that police interrogated him for organising Tuesday’s demonstration which was to press for the formation of a transitional government instead of a coalition government troubled southern African country.
