Under 19’s to face off against Ivory coast
Staff Reporter
The Zimbabwe Under 19 Rugby team currently in Tunisia fighting for the sole
African spot at next year’s world championships is set to meet the Ivory Coast
after having dismissed hosts Tunisia 18-11 in the first match. The young lads
who are still basking in the glory of their world cup qualification are
sounding confident ahead of tomorrow tie.
Speaking from Tunis, the captain of the side Michael Todd, says the boys strength was tested when they played the hosts in a match that he termed ‘dirty.’
“it was a dirty match because they had big players than us. Team spirit pulled us together and im sure it should be able to see us through again tomorrow, said Todd.
The Under 19’s remain the pride of the local rugby union following a spate of bad performances by the senior side which has continuously faultered in its quest to redeem lost glory.
Assistant coach Rory Mcquaide says a victory against Ivory Coast will edge the boys closer to qualification for the next year’s tournament.
“Well it will abviously boost their confidence and that is what we need for them. Remember there is only one spot for Africa so a win means everything in this tournament.
The captain, Todd, expressed confidence that they would snatch a victory against the ivorians owing to their experience.
“We have a lot of talent in the field and from the way we played against Tunisia, this should be an easy match,” he said.
