NCA to stage nationwide, week-long protests

Harare (ZimEye) THE National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) says it will next week embark on a series of nationwide street protests aimed at expressing its displeasure on the continued political impasse between the country's main political players.

Speaking at a news conference in Harare this morning, NCA spokesperson, Murdoch Chivasa said the civic movement would also use the demonstrations as a platform to push the political parties to adopt its three point proposal towards the solution of the country’s crisis.

'The NCA also reminds the people of Zimbabwe and the political parties that whatever inclusive government is finally agreed to, it should only be viewed as a transitional government that must facilitate the fulfillment of the socio-economic needs of the citizens and simultaneously allow for the people to write a new people-driven constitution followed immediately by new elections under a new constitution

'...We appeal to SADC to adopt this three point approach to the Zimbabwean crisis. The NCA will campaign for this three point plan through civic advocacy and street protests. The first protests to push for the adoption of this position will be on Tuesday 11 November in five centres namely Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, Masvingo and Gweru. These will be followed within days by further protests in which the NCA will be working with other organizations supporting this three point plan,' said Chivasa.

He added that the organization would also sell the idea to regional leaders who are due to meet in Johannesburg soon to deliberate the solution of the Zimbabwean crisis.
