                                        Breaking News!
Under 19 rugby team out of world championships 03-09-08

                                               By Barney Murindagomo

It’s over, painfully though but its over, after a fairytale run in Tunisia at the qualifier for the world championships set for next month the Under 19 Rugby team is out of the competition. Losing by three points, the lads lost 16-13 to Namibia. The Namibians continued with their dominance of the Zimbabweans whom they beat 23-20 last year.

The team which was scheduled to return tomorrow deserves a hero’e welcome according to the Zimbabwe Rugby Union president Bruce Hobson.

“Of course they lost but look where they came from, it was a close shave and we know they will improve on their game in the next matches,” he said.

Team manager Tafadzwa Matadzange said she was proud of the side despite the loss.

“They never looked back ever since they came, and they showed resilience and a lot of stamina in the ground, she said.

“We all wanted a win but it didn’t go that way though,” she added.

Namibia will join South Africa who have automatic qualification for the tournament. The local side qualified for the finals after dismissing Tunisia 18-11 in the first match before thrashing Ivory Coast 21-0 in the semifinal.
