Controversy dogs CBZ FA cup
Staff Reporter 23/09/08
The long awaited return of Dynamos to the domestic league has been put on hold following the postponement of their CBZ FA cup second round match against Sundowns. The match which had been scheduled for Wednesday will be played at a date yet to be announced after Zimbabwe Saints went to the courts to contest their being booted out of the tournament after walking out on a match.
Zifa competitions committee member Jonathan Musavengana said the unfolding event was unfortunate for local football.
“Its quite unfortunate that this has to happen now. Zimbabwe Saints walked out of a match in clear violation of the stipulated rules and now we have to cancel yet another match because the tournament is on hold because of the court case,” said Musavengana.
The latest development comes as an addition to the already existing problems that have dogged the competition. Some clubs have failed to turn up for their matches and sources say the sponsors are not happy with the developments at the competition.
“To think that some clubs up to now do not appreciate the importance of safeguarding the name of the sponsor is shocking. I’m disappointed,” said Musavengana.
Musavengana said the match will “hopefully” played at the weekend.
