MDC says it won't play into Mugabe's hands
By George Nyathi

HARARE(ZimEye-Zimbabwe)THE Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) says will not play into the hands of President Robert Mugabe and his Zanu-PF party which is desperate to form an all inclusive government at a time when there are still sticking issues regards power allocation.
Zanu-PF, through its chief negotiator in the crisis-talks, who is also the former Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs minister, Patrick Chinamasa (in the absence of an official cabinet), last week claimed it had invited MDC leader, Morgan Tsvangirai to submit names of cabinet members from his party who were to be appointed ministers by Mugabe in the new government.
In a recent interview, MDC national spokesperson, Nelson Chamisa said his party had not been officially invited to submit the names for the new cabinet.
He added that even if the invitation was to come, his party would not submit the names as per request given that the process was still to be finalized.
“I think that the invitation is yet to come to us. After all, how can we be invited to be passengers in a vehicle that we are co-driving? The processes are still being worked out and we wonder why the hurry to invite us to submit the names. At the moment, we are still consulting other members of the party and we will not play into the hands of Mugabe and Zanu PF who want to fast track the process while it is still at its infancy,” said Chamisa.
He added that his party’s supreme decision making body, the national executive council would meet to deliberate further on the matter, reviewing the current situation and then spell the way forward.
“The MDC national executive and its national executive council will meet tomorrow (Friday) to deliberate on the situation vis-à-vis the outcome of the SADC extra-ordinary summit held on Sunday.
“SADC has made its recommendations and this meeting is to review these recommendations and then see whether there is still need for us as a party to take the issue up with other institutions. If there is a feeling within the membership of the MDC that the issue requires other bodies’ attention, then we will duly make that recommendation,”” Chamisa added.
He highlighted that the MDC still had the United Nations and African Union options to pursue in case it felt hard done by the SADC resolution.
“SADC is one of the bodies in a sea of others where we can seek recourse. We have the latitude to take up the matter with the African Union as well as the United Nations. That is all for the national executive council to decide and that will be done on Friday,” said Chamisa.
