Exclusive! - ZAPU-2008 revival and flashback...
By
Vusi Moyo & Dorothy Machiri 04-11-08
Bulawayo (ZimEye) As we continue with our
coverage of the revival of PF Zapu, a party that has been a partner of Zanu
PF since 1987 ZimEye will also be releasing top secret documents and other
pieces of evidence used against Zapu by Zanu PF when Zapu was once regarded
as the largest opposition party in the country. Below is a PF statement
released in 1982 in response to arms caches being found on their farms.
Our correspondents, Vusi Moyo and Dorothy Machiri have uncovered a deliberate attempt by Zanu PF to build a fake case after the discovery of arms caches in and around Bulawayo. The meeting of the PF Zapu central committee considered that the Prime Minister Mr Mugabe knows very well that the problem of arms emanates from the just ended war. Zapu had no prior knowledge of the arms caches. The administration of the army and all military issues were placed under the responsibility of the joint military command. The arms were found on Nitram run farms. Nitram is a company formed by Zipra excombatants. It has no direct links with Zapu. We wish to categorically deny the allegation of a plot to overthrow the government.
Statement by Robert Mugabe (in Marondera, while addressing a crowd of 18000 supporters) after arms were discovered on ZAPU farms
‘Some of you may think nothing will be done but I can assure you something will be done. Zapu will be asked to account for themselves to establish whether they had any complicity with hiding of the arms caches.
My heart is torn to pieces by the realisation that while his party and government were struggling to consolidate Zimbabwe's independence to promote the spirit of reconciliation and forgiveness, a partner in government was working behind their backs to create further strife, tears and bloodshed. But in the midst of our endeavours our colleagues in government were stockpiling and hiding weapons enough to arm 20000 men. These weapons were discovered at Gwaai, Mushumbi pools, Silalabuhwa, Ascot farm, and others which are part of the 25 farms bought by ZAPU for these illegal dealings.
ZAPU are like a cobra in the house the only way to deal with it is to strike it and destroy it's head. We made Nkomo our leader for years…what did he do trying to sell our country to our oppressors. Nkomo tried to sell the country at both the Geneva and Lancaster house talks.' Comments
